Achoo … Ms. A arrived this week. She sneezes because she is happy, not because she has a cold nor allergies … and she was sneezing a lot this week in Pre-K! It was all about apples this week – we read Dr. Seuss’ 10 Apples on Top, made an apple on top craft, and tasted 3 different types of apples and charted our favorites. We had a pumpkin investigation with the class pumpkin we got at the pumpkin patch. We measured the pumpkin, counted its lines, tested if it would float or sink, and finally tallied up the number of pumpkin seeds from inside the pumpkin. The kids love science! Our WOW words this week were: safety, equipment, caution, distract, and admire.
First, second, third, fourth and fifth … we learned about ordinal numbers along with first and last designation! The class had a great time quizzing each other on their place in line and experimenting with switching places and how that affects our ordinal number place.
We discussed how we can stay safe – helmet while riding our bike, seatbelts in the car, lifejacket while around water and SO MUCH more. This week we had the Great American Shakedown and this drill gave us the opportunity to talk about safety in school and at home. Please review with your child how to stay safe at home and what to do if your family would have an emergency at your home too!
Next Week: We start a new theme next week about OUR COMMUNITY and Mr. B is introduced.
