Christ the King School community reflects the changing demographics of South Bend. Over the last 19 years, Christ the King School has become a more diverse school. Our school is a blend of families including parishioners, neighbors, newcomers to the city, and those whose families helped to found and build Christ the King. At CKS we have many parents and faculty who are CKS alumni, giving the school a warm and friendly “family” feel.
In keeping with the tradition of Catholic schools, learning at Christ the King School occurs in a nurturing, Christ-centered environment where daily prayer and character formation are highly valued features of our program. Our Catholic faith is integrated into learning throughout the day so that students not only learn their faith but also put their faith into action. Students in every grade level are involved in service to the community. In the primary and intermediate levels, the students may make things for the surrounding nursing home, or have residents come over to the school so they can read to them. The middle school students have required service hours in our community in locations like Reins of Life, the Center for the Homeless, Healthwin nursing home, Wellbrooke assisted living, Holy Cross House (nursing home for Holy Cross Priests and brothers), and many more.
Curriculum and program improvements are ongoing at Christ the King School. The school has a School Improvement Plan and Strategic Plan to ensure the continued vitality of our school for years to come. Participants in the process represent many areas of our parish and school community and examine a variety of indices of the school’s growth and improvement. This plan will provide a clear path to a bright future for our school.
The staff here inspire a love of learning in students and believe in the importance of lifelong learning for all. CKS teachers have many opportunities to attend workshops and seminars to remain current in best practices. As a faculty, curriculum alignment is a priority. From kindergarten to first, from first to second, and on up through the grades, our goal is to give our students a top-notch, Catholic education that prepares them for success in high school and beyond.
Christ the King School is fortunate to have the support and leadership of Bishop Rhoades of the Diocese Fort Wayne/South Bend and Father Stephen Lacroix, CSC, pastor of Christ the King. They are extremely supportive of Catholic education, and with their enthusiasm and dedication, I believe that we will see new opportunities for growth in the Catholic educational system in the Diocese of Fort Wayne/South Bend.
