What a fun week in PreK! This week, we are learning about the people in our community. We had some visitors this week from the St. Joseph County Library and firefighters/paramedics from the Clay Fire Department. The librarian taught us about her job, read books to us, sang songs and showed the class all the wonderful things you can borrow from the library. The fire department taught our class the difference between TOOLS and TOYS in addition to talking about what to do and not do in the event of a fire. Each student was instructed to ask their family about the designated meeting place if a fire would occur – please make sure you discuss this with your child and family. We got to see a fire engine and an ambulance along with a lesson in all the equipment on each. Thank you to all community helpers that visited our classroom!
We also meet Ms. K, a champion kicker, and learned about her letter and sound. We practiced our upper and lower case k’s and made a list of Kk words. Our WOW words this week were: rescue, rely, serve, contribute, champion. It was a fun week with Ms. K! In math, we continued to compare objects and their characteristics.
We celebrated Halloween with a fun party hosted by the parents – thank you for everything … the students had a wonderful time! We celebrated All Saints Day with mass on Thursday afternoon – the 4th grade students dressed as their favorite saints so we enjoyed their procession into the church. We talked about saints in religion class this week and we learned about St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, our classroom saint.
Next Week: Mr. D will be introduced next week and we will begin comparing the length/height and weight of items. And we will be talking DINOSAURS … truly a PreK favorite this year!
