Middle School Science Week of 9/17

6th: On Monday we had an open note quiz over Chapter 1 Lesson 1. Tuesday, we are learning about average speed, constant speed, and changing speed with a few demonstrations and some note taking. On Wednesday we will be looking at distance vs. time graphs, and learning how to read them and even create them with a short minilab. There will be a distance vs. time graph worksheet assigned on Wednesday that will be due Friday. Thursday we will be looking at velocity and its relation to speed, and the on Friday there will be a quiz over speed. When they are done with the quiz, we will be beginning a lab to practice their skills of measuring and graphing speed.

7th: On Monday we reviewed Newton’s First Law and Inertia with a small demonstration. Workbook pages were assigned in class, and if they were not finished, were homework due Tuesday. On Tuesday we will discuss how forces affect motion and Newton’s Second Law. Wednesday we will review circular motion and centripetal force, with a worksheet assigned to review the 2nd law that will be due Thursday. On Thursday we are learning Newton’s Third Law and discussing momentum. On Friday we will spend the day doing the Chapter 1 study guide, and anything not finished will be homework due Monday when we review the answers and take a practice test. The Chapter 1 test will be on Tuesday.

8th: On Monday we reviewed physical changes, chemical properties, and chemical changes. On Tuesday, we will be looking at how to balance chemical equations and practicing them, with a worksheet that will be due Wednesday. Wednesday we will discuss what things affect the rates of chemical reactions, and Thursday we will spend the day doing the Chapter 1 study guide. Anything not finished during class will be due on Friday when we review the answers and take a practice test. The Chapter 1 Test will be on Monday.

Hope everyone is ready for a great week!
